DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: Lighthouses can serve as beacons– looking down upon a body of water filled with ships returning to harbor. Lighthouses can serve as warnings– towering above a dark watery graveyard. Lighthouses can be houses– a liminal, littoral space where families build their fragile lives. This piece remembers the people who labored and lived in the lighthouse on Wisconsin’s Rock Island, and the children buried nearby.
