TITLE: Protector of Breath Cartridges
DATE: 2013
MEDIUM: acrylic paints
DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: I endearingly call my lungs “Breath Cartridges.” I just received a Double Lung transplant. During the surgery my sternum was split and then mended and my upper ribs were cranked up with a device and raised like the hood of a car for hours in order to remove the defective lungs in exchange for the “new to me” ones. My chest cavity endured much stress in order for me to get a second chance at life. I can still feel my ribs slowly moving back into place, and the pieces of my sternum fusing back together. This painting is my vision for the healed bones that protect my new Lungs.
