TITLE: Rib Bone Reliquary (for the Northern Pike I Killed and Ate)
DATE: 2013
MEDIUM: glass, bone, deer antler, FD&C Red 40, cork, rubber, brass, steel
DIMENSIONS/RUN TIME: 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ x 12″
DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: Reliquaries often contain body parts of someone who has died for others, dwellings for inhabitants similar to trophies or amulets. The northern pike whose rib bones are enshrined in the reliquary lives on as a pilgrimage amulet, and the deer antler mounting is a literal trophy. This memorialization of the pike contrasts with the lack of identity for animals killed and packaged in the supermarket.
