MEDIUM: hand-embroidery on thirteen found cards
DIMENSIONS/RUN TIME: 36″ x 4″
DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: I have never broken a bone – not a finger, toe, arm, or rib. Once, as a small child, I underwent surgery to have a fragment of bone removed from my maxilla, or upper jaw. Other than that, my experience with skeletal medical history resides completely with playing Operation as a kid. Now, I wear wrist braces nightly to counteract inflammation from my studio practice: embroidery. There is a pattern, like teeth forming, in this history –
An acute awareness to avoid pain
A careful, steady hand.
Tenuous and nervous removal
Slow and tense accumulation.
