Babette Wainwright

TITLE: Storyteller
DATE: 2013
MEDIUM: bone, mixed media
DIMENSIONS/RUN TIME: 15″ x 10″
DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: Bones are beautiful, eloquent, and have infinite memory. They are our universal fortune tellers either in their natural forms or in a game of dice. We recognize our humanity in their stories. Our collective memories get reincarnated through storytelling. The
Storyteller in my Haitian culture often appears as a mysterious woman wrapped in a head scarf. Bones are humanity’s connection to life and death. My “Storyteller” symbolizes the head vessel in which bone-memories are stored.
